The Ancient Stannary town of Lostwithiel has a rich and varied history that has left its marks to the present day. From the site of a Roman Fort, as well as a major port in Medieval times for the export of Cornish Tin, the town was host to Parliamentary soldiers in the Civil War battle of 1644, and played a part in the industrial era by being the site of Cornwall's railway carriage works and iron mining.
